History and presentation
I am the Queen of the parties, Miss Bonbon, although you can call me Pollicipes pollicipes.
I’m a crustacean like that, just like mussels. I live next to the rocks, where we grow up in colonies.
Barnacles are found in many parts of the world such as Morocco, France, Canada or the Pacific coast.
But I have to say that the good, quality barnacle is the one that is plucked in Galicia by the Percebeiros.
We are made up of a stalk and a nail. The peduncle is the edible part, formed by a fleshy part with a skin covered by scales, at the top there are several pieces that form the barnacle’s claw.
We are the authentic delicacy of the Galician estuary, which brings to the palate an intense taste of sea, with low fat and cholesterol content, and above all with zero carbohydrates, therefore ideal to keep the line as I do.
I am convinced that this year, there will be neither Canadian nor Moroccan barnacles coming to compete with me because they don’t get on my feet.
Because this year by order of our Coconut King, I am the organizer of the Festival of Flavors of the Sea.
I’m super excited and I want everything to be perfect. The oyster team is already preparing the guest list, the royal prawns are everywhere making sure that everything is kept in order, because sometimes between the rising and falling tides the waves make the estuary a chaos.
They say that this year there will be more participants than ever and that some of them are not playing fair. The people from the Pacific bring some seaweed that they say tastes like me, but I tell you that it doesn’t.
But there is nothing that equals the Galician flavour of the barnacles from the estuary, which is why I am convinced that the team of the seafood from the Galician rías bajas will be able to beat them all.
My talk is over, I have to look for Camarón el Cocinillas, to organize the real food of the opening day of the festival and the closing party that will be remembered in all the coasts as the best of the seas and oceans in a long time.
